Running In and Seasoning of a Stove:
Correctly used stoves must undergo a period of running in , this is to season the stove so the cast does not expand too quickly. Light small fires for the first week gradually increasing the burning over that period. If you are burning mainly wood remove the multi-fuel grate as this could cause the wood to burn too quickly. If burning mainly coal leave in the multi fuel grate. The best wood to use is dry seasoned wood, although it is not advisable to use unseasoned wood or the pallet you get with delivery, many people do. In the old days the seasoning of the stove was done outside prior to installation with a flue pipe added to the stove to mimick the internal pull of a chimney. These days this external method is not in fashion. During running in it is acceptable to allow the fire to extinguish and later to start again.
On our website some stoves pictures are shown with the wood burning on the grates. These pictures do not show correctly used stoves and have been taken for maximum flame effect for the photographs. Wood burns too fast with air coming from underneath.
